Our Promise
At Spexcycle, we promise transparency – not greenwashing.
We’re committed to doing what we say and continuously improving how eyewear is collected, recycled and remade.
Our goal is simple: to keep eyewear waste out of landfill wherever possible, reduce our environmental footprint, and value people above profit. We work toward genuine zero-waste solutions within the eyewear industry.
What Happens When You Send Frames to Spexcycle
When eyewear or manufacturing waste is sent to Spexcycle, we:
Separate and sort all materials including: prescription lenses, demo lenses, all frame types, and offcuts from production.
Recycle and reclaim everything we can.
Send any materials we can’t repurpose to a suitable recycler to ensure nothing goes to landfill unnecessarily.
Continue researching sustainable and low-impact recycling and manufacturing options.
Track materials individually to ensure full transparency.
Provide recycling or disposal documentation for manufactureres who require it.
Our recycling process supports a closed-loop system, where recovered materials are turned into new eyewear and accessories by Circular Eyewear.
Working with Optical Practices
We provide participating optical practices with:
Spexcycle collection boxes for used eyewear.
Marketing materials to help communicate the program to customers.
Collection services, provided in partnership with National Optical Distributors.
By joining the program, optical practices agree to:
Use the Spexcycle colection boxes in good faith for unwanted eyewear and components intended for recycling.
Store and handle collected materials responsibly.
Allow Spexcycle (or its partners) to collect these materials for recycling and remanufacture.
Collection and Recycling Process
Once collected, Spexcycle and Circular Eyewear:
Reclaim and recycle suitable materials for reuse.
Create new eyewear and accessories from recovered resources.
Continue refining our processes to move closer to zero-waste manufacturing.
This collaboration helps create a circular, transparent system, keeping materials in use and out of landfill.
Transparency and Accountability
We believe trust comes from openness.
That’s why we:
Keep detailed records of materials recieved and recycled.
Share recycling data with partneres upon request.
Report on our progress and improvements over time.
We’re proud to be part of a growing movement for genuine circularity in eyewear manufacturing.
Limitations
While we recycle as much as possible, some items can’t currently be processed due to material type, contamination, or technology limits.
In these cases, we ensure materials are sent to accredited recyclers or disposed of in the most environmentally responsible way available.
We cannot guarantee that every item collected will be recycled, but we are continually improving our process and infrastructure to close this gap.
